Sundargarh District's Sex Ratio Improves, Officials Announce
Imagine a town where they are keeping track of how many baby girls and boys are born.
In a place called Sundargarh, they recently checked the numbers and found that there are more baby girls born compared to baby boys than before.
Last year, the number was 934 girls for every 1000 boys, but now it is 957 girls.
The people in charge, like the district collector, are happy about this.
They talked about it in a meeting and are working hard to stop people from finding out the baby's gender before it is born, which is illegal.
They want to make sure everyone knows it's important to treat boys and girls equally.
They also are making it easier for people to report if they see any illegal activity related to the baby's gender.
The sex ratio at birth in Sundargarh district increased to 957 in 2024.
This is an improvement from 934 in the previous year.
The announcement was made at a district-level meeting.
The meeting addressed the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act, 1994.
Officials plan to intensify information, education, and communication (IEC) campaigns.
