Fencing Reduces Cattle Collisions on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Route
Imagine high-speed trains like Vande Bharat are like super fast cars.
Sometimes, cows or other animals would wander onto the tracks, causing accidents.
To solve this, the railway put up strong fences, like a giant wall, along the tracks between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
This has worked really well!
The number of times trains hit animals has gone way down.
Before the fences, there were many accidents, but now there are far fewer.
The fences keep the animals off the tracks, making train travel safer and allowing trains to go even faster!
Fencing along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad railway tracks has significantly reduced cattle collisions.
The Western Railway (WR) implemented a 'W beam' fence, an anti-crash barrier, along the 562-km route.
Cattle collision incidents dropped from 538 in 2022-23 to 101 in 2024-25.
In 2025-26, only 12 incidents were reported as of July 23, compared to 27 in the same period the previous year.
The fencing aims to prevent livestock from entering the tracks and enable higher train speeds.
