Tesla reports first annual sales drop
Tesla, the electric car company led by Elon Musk, recently shared its financial results for the last three months of 2025.
While they made more money than expected during this period, their total sales for the whole year actually went down for the first time ever.
This happened because they sold fewer cars and made less money from special credits.
They also spent a lot more on research and development, especially on artificial intelligence and robots.
Despite these challenges, Tesla is focusing on new projects like self-driving taxis and a humanoid robot called Optimus.
They even plan to stop making two of their older car models, the Model S and Model X, to focus more on these new ideas.
The company's stock price went up a bit after they shared this news.
Tesla reported its first-ever annual sales decline, with 2025 sales dropping to $94.8 billion from $97.7 billion in 2024.
Q4 2025 sales were $24.9 billion, slightly higher than expected, with EPS of $0.5 versus the $0.45 expectation.
Vehicle deliveries decreased by 8.6% for the full year and 16% in the fourth quarter.
Operating expenses increased by 39%, leading to a 61% drop in net profit for the quarter.
Tesla is focusing on new ventures like the Robotaxi business and the Optimus Humanoid robot, with plans to expand Robotaxi to seven additional cities and invest $2 billion in Elon Musk's AI startup xAI.
