PGIMER Study: Diabetes Remission Achievable Through Intensive Treatment
Scientists have found a way that might help people with Type 2 diabetes.
A new study showed that by using medicine, diet, and exercise, some people's blood sugar went back to normal without needing more medicine.
This is called remission, and it means their bodies started working better again.
The study was done in India and did not use extreme diets or surgeries.
About a third of the people in the study had their diabetes improve.
However, doctors also said that it’s not a cure and people will have to keep up with a healthy lifestyle to keep their blood sugar levels down.
A PGIMER study shows remission may be possible for Type 2 diabetes.
The study used modern medications, combined with diet and physical activity.
About 31% of participants achieved diabetes remission.
Remission was defined as HbA1c below 6.5% without medication for three months.
Experts note that remission is not a cure, and lifestyle commitment is needed.
