Trump Rejects AI Oversight as U.S. Labs Urge UN Cooperation

President Donald Trump said the United States should not join international efforts to oversee artificial intelligence.

He called those efforts a “globalist scheme.”

He also said the United States would use the word “superintelligence” for AI.

The next day, leaders from Anthropic and OpenAI spoke at the United Nations.

They supported working with other countries to make AI safer.

This means the U.S. government and major U.S. AI companies expressed different views.

The companies may support rules partly because rules could benefit established AI companies.

The disagreement could make international AI rules weaker.

This is because the companies may participate, while the U.S. government may not fully support the process.
