Israel Advances Controversial E1 Settlement Plan
Israel is planning to build thousands of new homes in an area called E1 in the West Bank.
This area is between East Jerusalem and a big Israeli settlement.
The plan includes a special road that Palestinians can't use easily.
Many people, including Palestinians and other countries, say this is not fair and will make it hard for Palestinians to have their own state.
Israel says this will help them control the land better.
The plan is very controversial because it might make it impossible to have two separate states for Israel and Palestine in the future.
Israel plans to build 3,401 housing units in the E1 zone of the West Bank.
A bypass road will restrict Palestinian access, effectively dividing the West Bank.
The project is seen as a move to prevent a contiguous Palestinian state.
Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich claims it will 'bury the idea of a Palestinian state'.
The international community largely considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal.
