AP to Begin AgriGold Depositor Payouts From September 15
Many years ago, a company called AgriGold promised people that if they gave their money, they would get a piece of land to build a home.
Lots of people trusted the company, but it cheated many of them.
Now the Andhra Pradesh government wants to help these people get their money back.
The government found thousands of acres of land that belonged to the company.
It plans to sell some of this land and give the money to the people who lost it.
Payments will begin around September 15.
A special court will be set up by August 15 to handle the case fairly.
The government will also try to recover nearly ₹2,000 crore of AgriGold bonds from agents.
People will be able to follow the process on a special website with live updates.
This is the government's plan to make things fair for the depositors.
The Andhra Pradesh government announced a time-bound plan to resolve the decade-old AgriGold scam, with depositor compensation via property auctions beginning by September 15.
A dedicated special court for AgriGold cases will become operational by August 15, and the government will seek Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's approval to appoint a nodal officer.
About 5.85 lakh agents collected ₹6,380 crore from depositors, including ₹3,944 crore in Andhra Pradesh, by promising residential plots.
The CID has handed over 14,304 acres to the government; about 6,380 acres will be auctioned in the first phase (one report cites 6,330 acres).
Special collection cells coordinated with the CID will recover AgriGold bonds worth nearly ₹2,000 crore from agents, including those outside the state.
