Mirwaiz Farooq Drops Hurriyat Chairman Title
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent leader in Kashmir, removed his title as 'Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference' from his social media profile.
He explained that he was forced to do this because the Hurriyat Conference and its groups, including his own, have been banned by the government.
Without making this change, his social media account would have been taken down.
This is one of the few ways he can communicate with people in Kashmir and the outside world.
The Hurriyat Conference, which was once a powerful group advocating for separatism in Kashmir, has lost much of its influence due to government actions and the arrest of its leaders.
Recently, a delegation met with Mirwaiz to discuss issues in Jammu and Kashmir, including political detainees and public hardships.
