Mamata Banerjee Challenges ECI Over Special Revision
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
She is challenging the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of voter lists.
Earlier, some members of her party had also filed a similar petition.
Mamata Banerjee accuses the ECI of being biased and acting in an authoritarian manner.
She wants the Supreme Court to intervene and give directions to the ECI.
She is also scheduled to meet the Chief Election Commissioner to discuss her objections.
Additionally, she plans to meet leaders of other opposition parties to build a consensus against the SIR.
The West Bengal Assembly will also condemn the SIR during the upcoming Budget session.
Mamata Banerjee filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the ECI and the state’s CEO over the ongoing SIR.
This is the second petition on the issue, following an earlier one filed by Trinamool Congress MPs.
Banerjee accuses the ECI of political bias and authoritarian approach, seeking the court’s intervention.
She is scheduled to meet the Chief Election Commissioner on February 2 to raise her objections.
The West Bengal Assembly will move a motion condemning the SIR during the Budget session.
