Sensex and Nifty Tumble Amid Oil Price Surge
The Sensex and Nifty, which are important stock market indicators in India, fell by nearly 1 percent on Wednesday.
This happened because the price of crude oil went up a lot, and there was also selling in bank stocks.
The Sensex dropped by 715.06 points to close at 76,755.05, and the Nifty fell by 191.45 points to end at 23,996.25.
The mid-cap and small-cap stock indices also saw declines.
Analysts say that the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, along with disruptions in global shipping routes, are making people worry about oil supply.
This worry is driving up oil prices and making the Indian rupee weaker.
Some of the biggest losers in the Sensex were InterGlobe Aviation, Infosys, State Bank of India, UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank.
