India Amends Telecom Rules to Curb Frauds
The Indian government has updated some rules to make phones and mobile numbers safer to use.
They added new systems to check if a mobile number is really owned by the person using it and to make sure second-hand phones aren't stolen or blacklisted.
This is to stop frauds and protect people when they use their phones for banking, shopping, or other important things online.
The rules also make sure that companies share important information with the government to help track and prevent frauds.
These changes are now in effect and will help keep India's digital world safer.
Department of Telecommunications amended the Telecommunication Cyber Security Rules, 2024.
New frameworks include Mobile Number Validation (MNV) platform and resale device scrubbing.
Aim is to curb frauds and improve device traceability in banking, e-commerce, and governance.
Entities dealing in resale or refurbished devices must scrub IMEI numbers through a centralised database.
Telecom Identifier User Entity must share relevant data with the government in regulated circumstances.
