Thousands of Vacant Posts in Indian Universities
In India, two states are dealing with a lot of job openings in their governments and universities.
Karnataka has about 400,000 empty jobs in different departments, with the most in the school education department.
The Chief Minister said they are working to fill these jobs.
In Maharashtra, over 7,000 teaching and non-teaching jobs are empty in four big agricultural universities.
The government is gathering information and will fill these jobs after getting approval.
The opposition parties have criticized the governments for not filling jobs quickly enough.
Karnataka has 4,00,978 vacant government posts across departments, boards/corporations, and universities.
The highest vacancies in Karnataka are in the school education department (79,694), followed by medical education and health (37,572).
The Karnataka government has filled 8,157 posts between 2023 and 2025, with 3,081 more in the recruitment process.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah attributed the delay in filling posts to internal reservation issues, which he claims have been resolved.
In Maharashtra, over 7,100 teaching and non-teaching posts are vacant in four major agricultural universities.
