EU Ban Disrupts $1.84 Billion in Brazilian Meat Exports

EU Ban Disrupts $1.84 Billion in Brazilian Meat Exports

The European Union has stopped accepting some animal products from Brazil.

The affected exports are worth about $1.84 billion each year.

Beef and chicken make up most of this trade.

The EU is concerned that Brazil’s systems do not prove strongly enough that banned medicines are kept out of animal production.

Brazil says its producers follow the EU’s rules.

Brazilian industry groups have also added new checks and safeguards.

European inspectors are examining Brazil’s poultry and honey systems.

Brazil hopes the poultry issue can be resolved quickly because chickens grow to market size in about 42 days.

The EU has not said when the restrictions might end.
