Mumbai Faces Severe Air Quality on Republic Day 2026
On Republic Day 2026, Mumbai woke up to very bad air quality.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) was very high, which means the air was not safe to breathe, especially for children, older people, and those with breathing problems.
Some areas like Sarvodaya Nagar had extremely dangerous air quality levels.
The weather was partly cloudy and warm, but the bad air made it hard to enjoy the day outside.
Experts advise people to stay inside as much as possible to avoid health problems caused by the polluted air.
Mumbai's overall AQI reached 306 on Republic Day 2026, classified as 'severe', up from 244 the previous day.
Sarvodaya Nagar recorded the highest AQI of 512, classified as 'hazardous', making it extremely unsafe for outdoor exposure.
A few areas like Gamdevi Station 1 and Reserve Bank of India Staff Quarters reported moderate AQI levels of 70 and 73, respectively.
Health experts advise residents to limit prolonged outdoor activities due to the high pollution levels.
The minimum temperature in Mumbai was 19°C, while the maximum was around 32°C, with partly cloudy conditions and hazy skies.
