'₹5 crore a day only': Zerodha withdrawal cap triggers investor debate
Imagine you have a piggy bank, but you can only take out a small amount of money each day, even if you have a lot saved up.
That's kind of what happened with a man named Aniruddha who uses a service called Zerodha to keep his money.
He wanted to take out a very large amount, but Zerodha said he could only take out ₹5 crore a day, which is like a lot of coins!
He got upset and said it was unfair, like a trick.
But Zerodha explained that they have this rule to keep everyone's money safe from bad guys, like a security guard for the piggy bank.
They also said if he needs to take out more, he just needs to ask them nicely by sending a special message.
Other people think the rule is good because it stops people from losing all their money at once, but the man still thinks it's not fair he can't access all his savings whenever he wants.
Investor Aniruddha Malpani publicly criticized Zerodha's ₹5 crore daily withdrawal limit.
Malpani alleged the cap restricted his access to funds, calling the policy unfair.
Zerodha stated that withdrawals exceeding ₹5 crore require a support ticket for manual processing.
The brokerage cited compliance and security as reasons for the default withdrawal ceiling.
Others defended the limit, comparing it to similar caps in banking and UPI systems to prevent fraud.

Access to Funds
Investor Perspective
Zerodha's ₹5 crore daily withdrawal limit is unfair and restricts rightful access to personal funds, akin to a 'scam' where the platform uses investor money for free.
Brokerage/Industry Perspective
The ₹5 crore limit is a necessary security measure to prevent fraud and ensure compliance, similar to limits imposed by banks and UPI systems. Investors should be aware of these limits and plan their transactions accordingly.
Transparency of Limits
Investor Perspective
The limits feel like a trap, preventing investors from easily accessing large sums of their own money.
Brokerage/Industry Perspective
The withdrawal limits are publicly listed in Zerodha's support documentation, and there is a process for manual approval of larger transactions.
