Manipur Deputy CM Condemns Farmer Killing, CoTU Calls Shutdown

Hemjang Haokip was a 71-year-old farmer from Khunkho village.

He was reported missing from his farm, and his body was found the next day in a forested area.

Reports said his hands were tied.

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen called the killing a brutal act and offered condolences to his family.

She asked authorities to investigate and take strong action.

She also urged people to stay calm.

The Committee on Tribal Unity announced a 24-hour shutdown in Kangpokpi district starting at midnight on October 5.

A tribal organization alleged that NSCN-IM cadres abducted and killed Haokip, but that claim is presented as an allegation.
