J&K High Court Denies Bail to Retired SP in Sikh Youth's Murder Case
A retired police officer, who is accused of murdering a young Sikh man named Avtar Singh over a land fight, asked the court for permission to leave jail.
He said he was sick with heart problems and another illness, and needed special doctors outside the jail.
He also said he was not involved and was in another city when the fight happened.
However, the judge looked at reports from doctors who examined the officer in jail.
These doctors said that while the officer does need medicine and check-ups, he can get both of those things while he stays in jail.
The judge decided that the officer's sickness was not bad enough to let him out of jail.
The court also mentioned that even though the people who fought were not armed and the weapon was found at the scene, it doesn't mean it wasn't a murder case yet.
Many people were arrested in connection with Avtar Singh's death.
The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court denied bail to a retired Superintendent of Police accused of murdering Avtar Singh.
The retired officer sought bail on medical grounds, citing cardiac ailment and Crohn's disease, and claimed he was implicated.
The court cited a medical board report stating the officer's conditions can be managed within jail with continuous medication and follow-up.
The charges against the accused, including murder and conspiracy, were framed after a dispute over land.
The High Court is also hearing appeals against the discharge of some other individuals involved in the case.
