Mumbai Children's Homes Face Security Crisis
Security guards at three children's homes in Mumbai stopped working because they haven't been paid since November 2025.
These homes take care of children who are in trouble or need protection.
The guards are very important because they keep the children safe and make sure they don't get into fights.
The government has paid some of the money they owe, but not all of it.
The guards are having a hard time because they need the money to take care of their own families.
The government says they will pay the guards soon, but the guards are worried and might go on strike again if they don't get paid.
Around 40 security guards at three government-run children’s homes in Mumbai stopped working due to unpaid salaries since November 2025.
The affected facilities are the Children’s Home in Dongri, the children’s home in Mankhurd, and the David Sassoon Industrial School in Mahim.
The guards, employed by the contractor Smart Services, earn around Rs 13,000 a month.
The Maharashtra government released payments for June to September 2025, but dues for October to December 2025 are still pending.
The absence of guards has raised concerns over the safety of the juveniles housed at the facilities, some of whom face serious charges.
