Satara Villages Hit by Record Rain, Roads Shut
In the Satara district of India, a village called Navaja got a huge amount of rain on July 28, the most in two years.
Because of the rain, the main road fell in and stayed closed for a month, so buses couldn't reach the village.
The village’s primary school was shut for the whole month of July.
Kids had to travel to nearby villages for school, using a few jeeps that leave at set times.
Another nearby village, Patherpunj, is even harder to reach because its road floods and there is no phone signal.
Local leaders warned people not to travel there during the monsoon because it could be dangerous.
Navaja village received 394 mm of rain on July 28, the highest in two years.
The main road to Koynanagar caved in, leaving the village isolated for a month.
The village’s primary school was closed for the entire month of July.
Only a few jeeps operate in the area, leaving schoolchildren to wait for them.
Patherpunj village is cut off by flooding roads and lacks mobile coverage during the monsoon.
