Myanmar Junta Extends Post-Quake Ceasefire to End of June
Imagine a country where there's been a big earthquake, and also a lot of fighting.
The people in charge of the country, the junta, said they would stop fighting to help fix things after the earthquake.
They've said they will stop fighting until the end of June.
This is to help rebuild buildings, and they also said it would help with elections.
However, the people in charge have also said they might still fight back if anyone attacks them.
Some other countries are hoping they will stop fighting everywhere.
Myanmar's junta extended the ceasefire, which was set to expire on May 31, to June 30.
The extension aims to facilitate post-earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The junta stated the ceasefire would help to hold a 'free and fair multi-party democracy general election.'
The military warned it would retaliate against any attacks by ethnic armed groups.
Malaysia and ASEAN have called for a ceasefire extension beyond the affected zones.
