Delhi-NCR Traffic Grinds to Halt Amid Pre-Protest Security
Traffic became very slow across Delhi-NCR on Friday evening.
Many people were traveling home from work.
Police had put up barricades and were checking vehicles at borders.
These steps were taken before a protest planned for Saturday.
The roads between Delhi and Noida, and Delhi and Gurugram, were especially crowded.
Some trips that usually take 15 to 20 minutes took as long as two hours.
Police officers tried to manage traffic at busy crossings.
They also suggested some other roads people could use.
Heavy congestion struck Delhi-NCR during Friday evening's rush hour, affecting routes between Delhi, Noida and Gurugram.
Delhi Police diversions, border barricades and intensified checks ahead of Saturday's CJP protest slowed traffic.
The Sarita Vihar–Kalindi Kunj stretch and Sarhaul border were among the worst-affected corridors.
Some journeys that normally take 15 to 20 minutes took one to two hours.
Police deployed traffic personnel and recommended MG Road and the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway as alternative routes.
