Water Users Association Elections See Unopposed Wins in Madhya Pradesh
Water Users Associations help manage water for local users.
In Maheshwar, people chose presidents for nine associations linked to the Omkareshwar Canal Project.
Seven of the winners did not have an opponent.
Two races were decided by voting or a tie-breaking draw.
Balkrishna Patidar won Bahegaon after he and another candidate received the same number of votes.
One winner, Virendra Patidar, was elected for a second time in a row.
An election officer gave certificates to the winners.
A separate report said BJP-supported candidates won unopposed in associations linked to two projects.
That report names seven associations while saying there were six.
Nine Water Users Association presidents were elected in Maheshwar under the Omkareshwar Canal Project; seven won unopposed.
Rakesh Jat won in Pipalya Khurd with seven votes, defeating Lobhiram Yadav, who received five.
In Bahegaon, Balkrishna Patidar and Nandram Patel each received six votes; a draw of lots declared Balkrishna the winner.
Virendra Patidar won the Thangaon presidency for a second consecutive time, and election officer Kailash Sastya presented certificates to winners.
A separate report said BJP-supported candidates won unopposed in associations under the Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar projects, but its claim of six associations conflicts with the seven named.
