Nepal Eases Indian Currency Restrictions
Nepal has decided to allow people to carry ₹200 and ₹500 Indian notes up to ₹25,000.
This change ends a 10-year ban and makes it easier for people to travel and do business between Nepal and India.
Both Nepali and Indian citizens can now bring these higher-value notes into Nepal from India or take them from Nepal to India.
This decision was made after the Reserve Bank of India changed some rules.
It will help tourists and business people, as well as migrant workers who earn money in India.
Before this change, people had trouble carrying large amounts of money and some were even jailed for carrying higher-denomination notes.
The new rule will also help Nepal's tourism sector, especially casinos and hotels that serve Indian visitors.
Nepal allows ₹200 and ₹500 Indian notes up to ₹25,000 per person, easing a decade-old ban.
Decision made during a cabinet meeting on Monday, following RBI's amendment to currency regulations.
Both Nepali and Indian citizens can carry higher-denomination notes between the two countries.
Change aims to facilitate travel and business, benefiting tourists, migrant workers, and the tourism sector.
Previous restrictions caused difficulties for migrant workers and hurt Nepal's tourism industry, particularly casinos and hospitality businesses.
