Dayanand Shetty Says Internal Politics Ended CID’s Original Run
CID was a very popular Indian crime television show.
It began in 1998 and ran for about 20 years.
The original show stopped airing in October 2018.
Actor Dayanand Shetty, who played Daya, said disagreements helped cause the ending.
He said the channel wanted to replace the producers in 2016.
The actors opposed the change because they trusted the producers they had worked with for many years.
Shetty also said the cast had never signed formal contracts and relied on verbal agreements.
He recalled that singer Lata Mangeshkar loved CID and called Sony to ask why it was being stopped.
The show returned with a new season in December 2024 and later streamed on Netflix.
CID premiered on Sony Entertainment Television in 1998 and ended its original run in October 2018.
Dayanand Shetty attributed the show’s abrupt cancellation to internal politics involving the channel, producers and cast.
Shetty said the channel sought to replace the producers in 2016, a move the actors opposed.
He said the cast had no written contracts and worked through verbal agreements with Fireworks Production.
Shetty recalled that Lata Mangeshkar contacted Sony’s US operations and the Indian channel to question CID’s cancellation.
