India Boosts Electronics and Rare Earth Manufacturing
The Indian government has started two important plans.
The first plan is to make special magnets called sintered rare earth permanent magnets.
These magnets are very important for things like electric cars, phones, and wind turbines.
The government will help companies build factories to make these magnets by giving them money for their sales and for building the factories.
They will also make sure that the top companies get the special materials they need to make these magnets.
This plan will last for seven years, with two years to build the factories and five years to get money for sales.
Companies that want to join must have enough money to start, depending on how much they want to make.
The second plan is about making electronics.
The government has approved projects in 10 states that will create about 1.80 lakh jobs.
These projects will build special areas with factories and facilities to make electronics.
Some factories are already making things and have created 13,680 jobs so far.
The government is also helping with money to build these areas.
India launches scheme to create 6,000 MTPA domestic manufacturing capacity for sintered NdFeB magnets.
Dual incentive structure: sales-linked incentive (40% of net sales) and capital subsidy (15% of investments).
Capital subsidy ranges from ₹75 crore to ₹150 crore, with sales incentive capped at ₹645 crore to ₹1,290 crore.
Government guarantees 500 MTPA of NdPr oxide supply for top three bidders.
Scheme duration: 7 years (2 years setup, 5 years incentives), with minimum net worth requirements for bidders.
Electronics manufacturing clusters (EMC 2.0) in 10 states to generate about 1.80 lakh jobs.
11 EMC and 2 CFC projects approved, covering 4,399.68 acres with a project cost of ₹5,226.49 crore.
Investment commitment of ₹1,13,000 crore received from 123 land allottees, with nine units already in production.
EMC 2.0 scheme aims to create world-class electronics manufacturing infrastructure with common facilities.
Impact assessment highlights accelerated development, improved supply-chain responsiveness, and significant employment generation.
