Russia Offers India 177S Engine for Super Sukhoi Fleet Upgrade

Russia Offers India 177S Engine for Super Sukhoi Fleet Upgrade

Russia has offered India a newer engine for some of its Su-30MKI fighter jets.

The proposal is part of a much larger plan to modernize nearly 260 aircraft.

The first part of the plan could involve 84 jets.

Russia says the new engine is powerful, lasts a long time and could use less fuel.

It is similar in size and weight to the engines already used in the fighters.

That could make installing it easier, but India still needs to study the idea.

The modernization may also add better radar, computers and electronic defenses.

Russia has made other defense offers, including Su-57 fighters and more air-defense systems.

India will decide after examining the technical, financial and industrial issues.
