Delhi HC Orders Immediate EV Subsidy Payments of ₹140 Crore
The Delhi High Court has told the government to pay out about ₹140 crore in subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs) because there have been delays.
The money is for people who bought EVs, but haven't received their rebates yet.
The court said the government can't hold back payments because of slow processes.
The delays happened because of a pause in cabinet meetings and an EV policy lapse.
The government is now checking who is eligible and building a new online system to speed up payments.
So far, over 219,000 EVs have benefited from the policy, and a new EV policy is being planned for the future.
Delhi High Court has ordered the Delhi government to pay ₹140 crore in outstanding EV subsidies.
The backlog stems from procedural delays and a temporary lapse in the EV policy.
The court explicitly stated that subsidy disbursement cannot be withheld indefinitely.
A new online system is being developed to facilitate faster subsidy payments.
The current EV policy has been extended to March 2026, with a new version under public consultation.
