Beed Records 1,833 Dog-Bite Cases Amid Stray-Dog Crisis
Many people in Beed were bitten by stray dogs.
There were 1,833 reported cases from January to July.
Children and other residents are worried about dog packs in neighbourhoods.
A three-year-old girl needed 12 stitches after a dog attack.
Another child suffered serious leg injuries while playing outside.
The municipal council hired an agency to sterilise stray dogs.
The agency says it stopped work because some bills were not paid.
Officials say they will try to find a solution, but they also say sterilising dogs cannot guarantee that no dog will bite.
Beed recorded 1,833 dog-bite cases during the seven months from January through July.
Reported cases rose sharply in June and July, reaching 510 and 564 respectively.
Residents say stray dogs continue to threaten children, women and elderly people across Beed.

The municipal council and contractor offered differing accounts of the contract’s start and suspension.

Effectiveness of stray-dog control
Residents and Contractor
Residents say stray packs remain in neighbourhoods and continue attacking people despite public spending. The contractor says it sterilised 350 to 400 dogs monthly when operations were active.
Municipal Council
The municipal engineer said a sterilised dog cannot be guaranteed not to bite and said the council would seek a solution.
Reason for work stoppage
Residents and Contractor
The contractor said operations halted because it received payment only for February and later bills remained unpaid. Residents question why the tender was issued before shelters were ready.
Municipal Council
The municipal council acknowledged that pending bills caused the stoppage but said the issue would be resolved; it also said shelter readiness delayed the start of work.
Use of public funds
Residents and Contractor
Residents questioned the use of roughly ₹5 lakh per month, or nearly ₹60 lakh annually, because the stray-dog problem reportedly remains severe.
