Punjab Regularizes Sanitation Workers' Services
The Punjab government has decided to make the jobs of many sanitation workers permanent.
These workers have been working on temporary contracts for at least five years or were hired in 2021.
The government will also bring workers who have been outsourced but have worked for three years continuously under direct contracts.
This means they will get better pay and benefits.
The new pay will start from August 1 and will be Rs 20,520 per month.
The government had talks with the workers' unions and has asked them to stop their strike, especially during the monsoon season, to keep the cities clean and prevent diseases.
Some unions are still on strike, but the government hopes to resolve the remaining issues soon.
