Sonam Wangchuk Sets September 19 Deadline For Ladakh Protest
Sonam Wangchuk wants Ladakh to have full statehood and its own elected legislature.
He also wants the Sixth Schedule to protect Ladakh’s land, culture, jobs and local government.
Wangchuk said a six-day foot march could begin on September 19.
It would continue until September 24 if the government does not respond within a week.
The march could instead become a memorial walk if the government gives an assurance.
The walk would remember people who died during protests in 2025.
Ladakh leaders say the government did not bring a promised draft for a new elected body.
They also want major land and administrative decisions delayed until that body exists.
The march’s route has not been announced.
Sonam Wangchuk threatened a six-day padyatra in Ladakh from September 19 to 24.
The march will proceed if the government does not provide assurances within seven days.
Ladakh groups are demanding full statehood, a legislature and Sixth Schedule protections.
They also want major land and administrative changes paused until an elected body exists.
Leh and Kargil representatives said the Home Ministry meeting produced no draft or concrete assurance.
