West Bengal Considers PPP Model for 4,133 Empty State Schools

West Bengal has found 4,133 government schools that have no students.

However, teachers are still attached to some of these schools.

The government is considering letting private groups help run some of the school buildings.

This arrangement is called a public-private partnership, or PPP.

District committees will inspect the buildings and their locations.

They will suggest whether each building should remain a school or be used differently.

Some buildings could become health centres, training centres or government offices.

Teachers may be moved to nearby schools that need more teachers.

The government expects to decide what to do within a month.
