SABC and Partners Launch Sustainable Guar Initiative in Rajasthan
Imagine farmers in Rajasthan growing a special plant called guar.
Guar gum, made from this plant, is used in many things like ice cream and oil drilling.
A group is starting a project to help these farmers grow guar better.
They will teach farmers new ways to grow guar, and help them sell it.
This is because more people want this guar, and they want it grown in a way that's good for the environment.
The project aims to help farmers make more money while taking care of the land, with support from a local company and other groups.
SABC, a Jodhpur-based biotechnology center, launched a Sustainable Guar Initiative (SGI) with partners in Rajasthan.
The initiative aims to improve guar production practices and support farmers in the Jodhpur and Barmer regions.
Guar gum is a versatile product used in various industries, with India being a major global producer.
The SGI is supported by Adarsh Guar Gum Udyog and targets 480 direct and 2,600 indirect farmers initially.
The acreage under guar in Rajasthan is currently lower compared to the previous year.
