Maharashtra Civic Polls 2026: Voting Ends, Exit Polls Predict Mahayuti Victory
In Maharashtra, people voted on January 15, 2026, to choose leaders for their city governments.
This was a big event because it had been delayed for a few years.
In Mumbai, 1,729 people were trying to win seats in the BMC, which is like the city's main government.
The BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) worked together, while the NCP went alone.
The government gave a holiday so everyone could vote easily.
The stock market was also closed that day.
There were many police and special systems to make sure voting went smoothly.
The results will be counted on January 16, 2026.
Exit polls predict that the BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) will win many seats.
Some people had problems with the voting machines or couldn't find their names, but most people were able to vote.
Some celebrities like Akshay Kumar and Sachin Tendulkar also voted that day.
The voter turnout was around 46-50%, which is higher than in 2017.
People are hoping for a fair and smooth election.
