Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Eliminate H-1B Visa Program, Prioritize American Workers
A politician named Marjorie Taylor Greene is planning to introduce a new rule, called a bill, to stop a program called H-1B visas.
These visas let people from other countries come to America to work in special jobs.
Greene believes this program has been unfair and has taken jobs away from Americans for a long time.
She wants to put Americans first.
However, her bill will have a special exception for doctors and nurses for a little while.
She wants to let in 10,000 of them each year, but this number will slowly go down over 10 years.
This is to give the U.S. time to train its own doctors and nurses.
Her bill also wants to make sure that people on these visas can't stay in America forever, but have to go home when their time is up.
She thinks America has the best and most talented people and they should get the jobs.
US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is introducing a bill to completely eliminate the H-1B visa program.
The bill aims to prioritize American workers and stop alleged fraud and abuse within the H-1B system.
A limited exemption of 10,000 visas per year for medical professionals (doctors, nurses) is included, with a 10-year phase-out.
The proposed legislation will remove the pathway to citizenship for H-1B visa holders, requiring them to return home upon visa expiry.
The bill also seeks to prohibit non-citizen medical students from US Medicare-funded residency programs to bolster the domestic physician pipeline.

Eliminate H-1B Program to Prioritize American Workers
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene argues the H-1B visa program has been riddled with fraud and abuse, displacing American workers for decades. She believes it should be eliminated to put 'America First' and ensure Americans have their opportunities.
Temporary Need for Foreign Professionals and Medical Exemption
Greene acknowledges that H-1B visas were intended to fulfill temporary specialty occupational needs. She proposes a limited exemption for medical professionals to allow time for the US to develop its own pipeline of doctors and nurses.
Impact on Foreign Workers

Greene's bill aims to remove the pathway to citizenship for H-1B visa holders, requiring them to return to their home country once their visa expires, reinforcing the temporary nature of the visas.
Temporary Need for Foreign Professionals and Medical Exemption
The bill includes a 10,000-per-year cap on visas for medical professionals, which will be phased out over 10 years. This provides a transition period for the US healthcare system and allows for the continued, albeit temporary, entry of foreign medical professionals.
Domestic Workforce Development
Eliminate H-1B Program to Prioritize American Workers
The bill seeks to address the perceived inequity where foreign-born doctors receive residency spots while US medical graduates are left without placements. It also prohibits Medicare-funded residency programs from admitting non-citizen medical students to bolster the domestic physician pipeline.
