New Project to Protect Sandbar-Nesting Birds in Ganga Basin
A new project has been approved to protect the homes of special birds that nest on sandbars in the Ganga river.
These birds, like the Indian Skimmer, are in danger, so the project will watch over their nests and involve local people to help.
The project will start in places like Chambal, Lower Ganga, Bijnor, Narora, and Prayagraj.
The goal is to make sure the river stays clean and healthy for these birds and other animals.
The project also includes new ways to clean the river using natural methods and plans to restore important cultural sites along the river.
A new project approved to protect breeding habitats of sandbar-nesting birds, including the Indian Skimmer, in the Ganga basin.
The project focuses on long-term monitoring, community participation, and evidence-based conservation.
Nest monitoring will be conducted in Chambal, Lower Ganga, Bijnor, Narora, and Prayagraj with the help of trained local communities.
The project complements NMCG’s work on other river-related biodiversity and includes innovative pollution abatement methods.
The Executive Committee of NMCG also approved various other projects for river conservation and cultural heritage restoration.
