India Secures Consular Access for Detained Ex-Officer in UAE
India's government is helping an ex-army officer named Major Vikrant Jaitley who has been in jail in the UAE for more than a year.
The reasons for his arrest are still not clear.
Indian officials in the UAE have now been allowed to see him and are giving him support.
They are also talking to his family, including his wife, because the Delhi High Court asked them to help.
This situation is sensitive because India and the UAE are friendly countries.
It's similar to when eight Indian ex-navy officers were held in Qatar and later released.
India has obtained consular access to Major (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitley, an ex-Indian Army officer detained in the UAE for over 14 months.
The specific reasons for Major Jaitley's detention remain unclear.
Indian Embassy officials in Abu Dhabi have met him four times and are providing consular assistance.
Major Jaitley is the brother of former Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley, and his family has sought help through the Delhi High Court.
This case is sensitive due to strong India-UAE ties and follows a similar incident involving Indian ex-naval personnel detained in Qatar.
