Jharkhand Job Aspirants Hold Tiranga Yatra Over Exam Irregularities

Many young people in the Indian state of Jharkhand are hoping to get government jobs.

They believe the exams for these jobs were not fair.

So they have been protesting for 22 days.

On Independence Day, the day India celebrates being free from British rule, they marched through the city of Ranchi carrying the Indian flag.

The march was called a Tiranga Yatra, which means 'tricolour march,' and the crowd shouted patriotic slogans.

The young people want the government to make the exam process more open and to let an outside team such as the CBI or a panel of retired judges investigate what went wrong.

The leader of Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, promised that students' hard work would not be ruined by corruption or leaked exams, and that many job opportunities would be created.

One protest leader, who had been fasting for 14 days, said the police stopped him from leaving a hospital to join the march.

Videos of him struggling with security guards spread widely on social media.

Everyone hopes the problem is fixed fairly so that every young person gets an equal chance.
