Greece Expects Record Tourism in 2025
Greece is having a great year for tourism.
Lots of people are visiting, and the government thinks 2025 will be the best year ever.
They had 31.6 million visitors from January to September, which is more than last year.
The tourism minister is happy and thinks 2026 will be good too.
But there are some problems.
Some people are worried about too many buildings being made, and rents are going up.
Also, farmers are upset because they're not getting their money on time and it's hard to farm because of the weather.
The prime minister says talking is better than protesting, but the farmers aren't listening yet.
Greece is on track for a record year in tourism in 2025, with 31.6 million visitors from January to September, a 4% increase from 2024.
Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni expects 2025 to be another record year and is optimistic about 2026.
Tourism directly contributed around 13% of Greece's GDP in 2024 and indirectly to more than 30%.
Concerns include unchecked construction, rising rents, climate change, and wildfires threatening the tourism sector.
Greek farmers are protesting due to delays in subsidy payments, low prices, rising energy costs, and worsening climate conditions.
