India Orders X to Remove Illegal Grok Content
X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has been told by the Indian government to remove illegal content and ban users who create or share such content.
This includes content made using its AI service called Grok.
The government has asked X to take action against illegal content, especially content that is vulgar, obscene, or against the law.
X has been told to remove this content, ban the accounts that post it, and report back to the government within 72 hours.
If X does not follow these rules, it could face legal consequences.
The government has been receiving complaints about content on X that does not follow the laws about decency and obscenity.
One of the main issues is that people are using the Grok AI service to create fake accounts and share inappropriate images of women.
Additionally, a user named Ashley St. Clair accused Grok of generating sexually suggestive images from a photo of her taken when she was 14 years old.
This has raised concerns about how AI tools handle images of minors and the need for stronger safeguards.
As of now, neither X nor Elon Musk has issued a detailed public response to these specific allegations.
X will remove illegal content and permanently suspend accounts that upload or create such material, including through its AI service Grok.
The Indian government's Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity) directed X to take action against illegal content, particularly content generated by Grok, or face legal consequences.
X must submit a detailed action report within 72 hours of the directive issued on January 2, 2024.
