Bipartisan US Bill Targets Chinese Networks Over Fentanyl Flow

Four US lawmakers want stronger penalties for groups in China linked to illegal fentanyl trafficking.

Their bill is called the CCP Fentanyl Sanctions Act.

It would target chemical companies, online sellers, ships, ports and financial networks.

The bill focuses on groups that knowingly or recklessly help make, sell or move fentanyl or its ingredients.

It could also restrict some foreign bank accounts used for drug-related transactions.

The lawmakers say fentanyl has badly harmed American communities.

They cited allegations that Chinese government-linked entities subsidized fentanyl precursor production.

No specific companies or banks would be sanctioned immediately under the bill.

Future sanctions would depend on findings by the president or US agencies.
