Andhra Pradesh Raises Medical Student Stipends After Doctors’ Strike

The Andhra Pradesh government has increased the money paid to medical students working in government colleges.

MBBS and BDS house surgeons will get 10% more.

Postgraduate, super-specialty, MDS and DNB students will get 5% more under the detailed order.

The new rates apply from January 1, 2026.

The government will spend about Rs 34.08 crore more each year.

Junior doctors had asked for higher stipends and nearly 9,000 went on strike last month.

Their strike affected some services in government teaching hospitals.

The government also ordered a 3.5% annual increase from January 1, 2027, and thereafter.
