Bengal exorcist dies after snakebite remedy fails to save him

Snakes are animals with long bodies and no legs.

Some snakes have venom, which is like a poison that can make people very sick.

In a place called Bengal in India, there are people called Ojhas.

An Ojha is someone who people believe can heal sickness using old traditions and rituals.

A man named Krishna Mondal was an Ojha who often helped people bitten by snakes.

One day, a snake called a Russell's viper bit him while he was cutting grass.

Instead of going to a hospital right away, he used traditional rituals and folk remedies.

The poison made him very sick, and by the time doctors saw him at the hospital, they could not save him.

Many villagers still go to healers like Ojhas first, but the government says going to a hospital quickly is the safest way to survive a snakebite.
