Nepal Authorities Ease Fears of Major Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Flood
Nepal was worried that a very large flood might come through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli areas.
The worry began after reports from China about a blocked river and flooding.
On Wednesday, officials told people to stay away from rivers and move somewhere safer.
By Thursday morning, officials said they had no reliable sign of another major flood.
They said rain could still make the rivers rise somewhat.
Officials asked people not to believe unverified rumours.
Nepal is still having monsoon weather, so rain and lightning are expected in many places.
Some areas could receive very heavy rain, so people should remain careful and follow official updates.
Nepal’s Flood Forecasting Division said it has no reliable information indicating another major flood is imminent.
The warning followed reports from China that a river blockage had partially broken, causing flooding.
Officials said river levels could rise somewhat because of rainfall but urged people not to panic over rumours.
Monsoon conditions are bringing generally cloudy weather and rain across much of Nepal.
Heavy rain remains possible in parts of Koshi, Karnali, Sudurpaschim, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
