Meta Unveils Lightweight $1,299 VR Glasses for 2027
Meta has made a new virtual reality device that looks more like glasses than a bulky headset.
The company says the glasses weigh about 100 grams, although another report says the exact weight was not initially provided.
A small box called a puck holds much of the computer, battery and storage.
This makes the glasses lighter, but users will need to carry the puck.
The glasses can show very sharp pictures, movies and 3D entertainment.
People may also use them for work screens, games, sports and video calls.
Meta says users can control many features with their voice, eyes and hands.
Disney and other entertainment companies are preparing special content for the device.
Meta plans to sell the glasses in spring 2027 for $1,299.99.
Meta says its new VR Glasses weigh about 100 grams, roughly one-fifth the weight of Meta Quest 3.
The glasses use micro-OLED panels for a 5K Infinite Display with 37 pixels per degree, plus Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support.
A separate computing puck contains the processor, battery and storage, with reported battery life of up to three hours for high-resolution media playback.
Meta is promoting the device for films, work, gaming, sports and holographic video calls, with Meta AI, eye tracking and hand gestures.
The glasses are planned for spring 2027 at $1,299.99, while availability in India and other markets has not been announced.
