Beporoya Audiences Embrace Joy’s Complex Journey Toward Redemption
Beporoya is a film about a complicated character named Joy.
Joy makes choices that can seem harmful or even villainous.
The story follows him from his teenage years into adulthood.
It asks whether someone can change after recognising their mistakes.
Many viewers were surprised that the film was more than a typical toxic love story.
Some people told director Abhirup Ghosh that they saw parts of themselves in Joy.
Adrit Roy plays Joy at several stages of his life.
Newcomer Aryaa Ray acts in the film and also helped promote it behind the scenes.
Director Abhirup Ghosh says Beporoya has seen steadily increasing footfalls despite featuring newcomers and releasing during the pre-Puja lull.
Viewers have contacted Ghosh saying they recognise aspects of themselves in Joy, the film’s morally conflicted protagonist.
The film moves beyond its apparent toxic-love-story premise, prompting discussions about toxicity, growth, self-love and redemption.
Adrit Roy portrays Joy across different ages, physicalities and emotional states during the film’s six-year journey.
Debutant Aryaa Ray has earned praise for her screen presence and songs while also contributing to the film’s post-production marketing and promotional materials.
