Jadavpur University to Establish New Professor Post Funded by US Alumni
Imagine a university wanting to make its classes more like real jobs.
Some former students from this university who now live far away in California want to help.
They have created a special group to give money to their old university.
First, they are paying for a new kind of teacher, called a 'Professor of Practice.'
This teacher will have lots of experience from working in companies.
This way, students can learn from someone who has actually done the work.
They are also giving money to start a special class about cleaning up industrial water.
This class will help students learn how to solve big problems for factories and keep the environment clean.
It's like sending a super-experienced mentor and starting a special program to help the university and its students learn new, important things.
A platform of former Jadavpur University students in California plans to fund a new Professor of Practice position at JU.
This initiative aims to bring real-world experience and industry demands into the university's curriculum, particularly in Mechanical Engineering.
The UGC-designed post will enable tailoring courses to industry needs, with an initial funding consideration of $30,000 (₹25 lakh).
The alumni foundation is also funding an eight-month certificate course on Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) for wastewater management, with a $54,000 (₹47.9 lakh) donation.
The ZLD course will include classroom learning, industry exposure, and report preparation, with students receiving a monthly stipend.
