Bihar Government Faces Scrutiny Over Missing Fund Documentation
Imagine the government of Bihar has a big piggy bank with a lot of money.
The people in charge need to show where all the money goes.
But a report says that over 70,000 crore rupees are missing proper receipts.
This means they can't prove how they spent that money.
Because of this, there are worries that the money may have been used for the wrong things.
Some of the departments that are missing receipts are in charge of things like building roads, schools, and helping villages.
The report also showed that some of the bills were late which might make it easier for things to go missing.
CAG reports Rs 70,877.61 crore in Bihar funds lack utilization certificates.
Funds without proper documentation raise concerns of misuse and misappropriation.
The Panchayati Raj department has the highest amount of pending certificates, at Rs 28,154.10 crore.
Over Rs 9,205.76 crore in Detailed Contingent Bills are pending.
Bihar spent 79.92% of its Rs 3.26 lakh crore budget in fiscal year 2023-24.
