Tokyo Contest Challenges Participants to Sleep Fastest and Deepest

A mattress company in Japan held a contest to see who could fall asleep fastest and sleep most deeply.

The event took place in Tokyo and was called Matt Race.

Dozens of people took part.

They had 90 minutes to sleep on mattresses in a dim room.

Devices on their heads measured their sleep.

The person who slept fastest and deepest could win two million yen.

The organizer said the event was meant to get people interested in sleep.

OECD data cited in the article says people in Japan slept an average of seven hours and 24 minutes a day in 2021, the least among its 38 member nations.
