Fellowship Helps Scheduled Caste Scholar Complete PhD, Begin Teaching

Shewani Kumari wanted to earn a PhD but her family had little money.

Studying and doing research required paying for tuition, books, travel and other supplies.

She also had limited access to academic resources and guidance.

A government fellowship gave her money every month to continue her studies.

She received Rs 31,000 as a Junior Research Fellow and Rs 35,000 as a Senior Research Fellow.

The support helped her finish a PhD in Sociology.

Shewani now works as a lecturer and wants to become an assistant professor.

Her story shows how financial help can make advanced education possible for students facing difficult circumstances.
