Qaumi Insaaf Morcha 'Delhi Chalo' Protest Disrupts Traffic at Shambhu Border
A group called the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha wanted to march to Delhi to ask for some Sikh prisoners to be freed because they believe the prisoners have served enough time.
They gathered at a border crossing between Punjab and Haryana called Shambhu.
The police put up many barriers to stop them from going further into Haryana and towards Delhi.
Because of this, traffic had to be rerouted, causing delays.
The protesters stayed at the border for a while and gave a list of their demands to an official before leaving in the evening.
They also want justice for some past events in a city called Faridkot.
The Qaumi Insaaf Morcha (QIM) organized a 'Delhi Chalo' march which led to traffic disruptions at the Shambhu border.
Protesters gathered at the Punjab side of the Shambhu border and were prevented from crossing into Haryana due to heavy barricading by Ambala police.
The main demands of the QIM include the release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentences and justice for the 2015 sacrilege and police firing incidents in Faridkot.
Traffic diversions were in place on the Rajpura-Ambala-Delhi highway, with the Shambhu Border point closed for most of the day.
The protesters handed over a memorandum of demands to a senior central government official at the border and dispersed in the evening.
